LEGATO Systems Qualifies DinoStor TapeServers for Use With Its NetWorker Software
DinoStor TapeServer & NetWorker Provide Backup Protection for Critical Data Across the Network
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 31 -- DinoStor(TM), a pioneer in network-enabled backup solutions, announced today that the DinoStor TapeServer has been qualified with LEGATO NetWorker(R), the flagship product of LEGATO Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in enterprise content and storage management software.
DinoStor TapeServer is the first backup appliance in the market that allows users to share backup devices among network attached storage (NAS) servers on the Ethernet easily and inexpensively, with SAN-like performance without a SAN. With DinoStor TapeServer and NetWorker, customers leverage their investment in tape libraries and allow multiple servers to backup to tape via gigabit Ethernet. The combination of NetWorker and DinoStor TapeServer enables users to take advantage of distance and speed enhancements by attaching tape storage devices on a network instead of directly to a dedicated server.
DinoStor TapeServer and NetWorker 6 are fully compliant with the open standard Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) and will support backup and restore of NAS servers to local or remotely attached tape libraries, increasing flexibility, reducing overhead costs, and optimizing library resources.
"Exponential data growth and the continuing advancement of NAS technologies means that data protection remains a critical IT concern," said George Symons, vice president of product management and development, LEGATO Systems.
"DinoStor's TapeServer expands the capabilities of companies to optimize their network backup to tape libraries while NetWorker offers the scalability, platform support, and open standards-based architecture that large enterprises demand."
"With LEGATO NetWorker protecting information at many global Fortune 1000 companies, qualification of DinoStor TapeServer ensures that our product is now available to one of the largest storage networking software user groups," said Srini Sankaran, CEO of DinoStor. "We see LEGATO as a strategic partner in today's NAS enterprise backup environments. This solution is key to meeting the needs of LEGATO customers seeking to backup data across the network in environments with NAS filers such as Network Appliance and EMC. DinoStor wants to make it easy for users of network storage management software to use backup devices on the network, and our certification with LEGATO helps us reach that goal."
