QUALSTAR QUALIFIES DINOSTOR TAPESERVER NETWORK APPLIANCE
Tape libraries extend backup protection for critical data across the network
SIMI VALLEY, Calif., March 24, 2003 - QualstarŽ Corporation (Nasdaq: QBAK), a leading manufacturer of automated tape storage solutions, and DinoStorT, a pioneer in network-enabled backup, announced today that the DinoStor TapeServer has been qualified with Qualstar's complete TLS-Series and RLS-Series tape library families.
Qualstar's Simply Reliable tape libraries secure corporate-critical data for thousands of leading companies of all sizes, worldwide. DinoStor TapeServer is the first backup appliance in the market that allows users to share libraries among network attached storage (NAS) servers on the Ethernet easily and inexpensively, delivering SAN-like performance without a SAN. DinoStor TapeServer enables users to take advantage of distance and speed enhancements by attaching TLS and RLS-Series libraries directly to a network instead of a dedicated server. Incorporating TapeServer, Qualstar customers can further leverage their investment in their TLS- and RLS-Series tape libraries by allowing multiple servers to backup to tape via gigabit Ethernet.
DinoStor TapeServer is fully compliant with the open standard Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) and will support backup and restore of NAS servers to local or remotely attached tape libraries, increasing flexibility, reducing overhead costs, and optimizing library resources.
"The proliferation of NAS storage is challenging IT administrators to implement and maintain their data protection strategies," said Bob Covey, Qualstar vice president of marketing. "DinStor's TapeServer gives users a powerful tool to cost-effectively backup critical data across existing networks using our Simply Reliable tape library technology."
"NAS users demand reliable backup and recovery. Enabling Qualstar libraries to be shared via gigabit Ethernet using DinoStor TapeServers gives NAS users a reliable, high-performance and cost effective way to protect data," said Caroline Mead, vice president of sales and marketing for DinoStor.
Qualstar's full range of rack mountable to enterprise class automated tape libraries are sold exclusively through the company's worldwide network of authorized resellers.
